Keeping in touch
When a group of friends ate out Friday afternoon, little did they know that they were in for the surprise of a lifetime, one that left them speechless in person but hopeful that the following letter will serve the purpose of thanking a very thoughtful person:  “Dear Phil Anthropist,  This afternoon, a group of residents from St. Luke Lutheran Community in North Canton went out for an afternoon...

On a recent June Wednesday, our students at Bethel Park High School were treated to an unexpected day off due to a water main break at the school. My son and his friends decided to go golfing at an area course. After golfing, my son’s girlfriend joined the group of four boys for lunch at the Trolley Stop restaurant in Bethel Park. As the group ate their lunch, they realized a man seemed to...

ON June 1, I checked into the Viscount Gort Hotel to attend the National Council of Women of Canada AGM when I discovered I did not have the key to open my suitcase. After rejecting the hotel’s offer of their handyman to bust the lock or asking my family in Ottawa to courier me a key overnight, at 9 p.m. I asked for the Yellow Pages and called Brothers Lock and Safe on Wall Street. Five...

Good Samaritan plumbers I was driving to work along Broadway about 8 a.m. when I had to veer to avoid an SUV taking up my lane and his, and I hit the curb. I heard “Crunch! I had the start of a flat tire. I slowly...

Last Saturday, my family spent a leisurely afternoon and evening at Hyrum Reservoir. Some of us sat in the shade and watched the boats and swimmers out in the lake, while other family members joined in the water activities. After awhile, a Hispanic family arrived and they seated themselves at a nearby table. At one point, I absently noticed that they were spreading out plates and bowls on the...

The Umbrella Angel
One Friday afternoon, I was waiting at the corner of North Negley and Stanton avenues for the 87 Friendship bus to take me home. I arrived at the stop at 1:20. The 87 was due at 1:27. The sun was shining, but in a few minutes the sky darkened and a few drops of rain began to fall. I had no umbrella with me. I’m thinking that if I take shelter I miss the 1:27 and would need to wait...

A GRANDAD who needed emergency open heart surgery after collapsing in the street wants to thank the Good Samaritan who saved his life. Alan Brette, 60, a grandad-of-two from Thornaby, was walking in the town when he collapsed and blacked out. A man in a white Audi stopped and raised the alarm by ringing Mr Brette’s daughter who lived nearby. Mr Brette is now desperate to track down his rescuer...

nowhere-wo-man: This morning when I was walking to work I had my ipod head phones in a face forward. From the corner of my left eye I see this lady wildly waving her hands at me. Not sure of the reason I looked at her. She simply mouthed to me: “I love your dress!” And that just made me feel so good. It was not…

One Dollar.
beingyouisbeautiful: On my way to my friend’s house I saw a homeless guy. I’m not sure what was going through my mind but I decided to stop and give him a dollar. I’m glad I did. One dollar could buy him a sandwich or a drink. Something that I could so easily waste, to him, had such tremendous value.  He was the happiest man I’ve ever seen.

Think Kindness

Students at Reed High school are taking Williams’ message to heart by participating in an ongoing event starting today called, “15 Days of Kindness” led by their very own leadership class. “It’s really...

The good Samaritan withdrew the sum from a cashpoint machine, handed it to the 86-year-old woman – and promptly disappeared.  Now police investigating the robbery have publicly thanked him for his actions even though they don’t know who he is.  The pensioner’s handbag was snatched as she headed back to her car in York. Witnesses said a man who saw what had happened then drew the cash out.  ...

Act of kindness ripples outward
I couldn’t wait to get home so I could share our story. We just spent the weekend in Victoria. Both our daughters play hockey and they had games in Victoria. We are from Parksville. On Saturday night, after my younger daughter’s hockey game, we took the team to Red Robin. We are a team of 10, all between five and eight, and for most this was their first road trip. We all settled...

My friend and I headed over to Toronto and hired a car. We didn’t book any accommodation as it was at the beginning of September and we thought it would be easy to find a hotel or hostel. We had been driving for five hours when the weather changed and it looked like a thunderstorm was coming. We got lost and were both exhausted when I saw a lady parking her car. I stopped and asked if she...
